About the GHRP-2 peptide
GHRP-2 is a synthetic hexapeptide, D-Ala-D-2-Nal-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, from the growth hormone releasing peptide series that Cyril Bowers developed at Tulane University. Its INN is pralmorelin, and Kaken Pharmaceutical took it through development in Japan under the code KP-102 as a diagnostic agent. It is studied as a ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) ligand. GHRP-2 in the research literature
GHRP-2 is a second-generation member of Bowers' growth hormone releasing peptide series, made after GHRP-6 with D-2-naphthylalanine at position 2 in place of D-tryptophan. Its receptor was unknown when it was designed. Howard and colleagues, 1996, cloned the orphan receptor GHS-R from pituitary and hypothalamus using synthetic secretagogues as probes, and Kojima and colleagues, 1999, found ghrelin in stomach as the natural ligand. GHRP-2 is unusual in the series in reaching a licensed product: Kaken developed it in Japan as KP-102, profiled in Drugs R D 2004, and Kinoshita and colleagues, 2013, compared the GHRP-2 test with the arginine and insulin tolerance tests. Outside that diagnostic setting, published human work on GHRP-2 is sparse; the Sigalos 2018 review covers the secretagogue class as a whole. Thomas and colleagues, 2010, reported GHRP-2 in a nutritional supplement, which is why anti-doping laboratories built LC-MS methods for it early.
GHRP-2 vs GHRP-6 vs Ipamorelin: which to order
All three bind GHS-R1a, so the choice is about structure and paperwork. GHRP-6 is the 1984 original, His-D-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, 873.0 Da. GHRP-2 keeps the last four residues, changes the start to D-Ala-D-2-Nal, 818.0 Da, and is the only one with a licensed comparator anywhere, as a diagnostic in Japan. Ipamorelin is a pentapeptide, Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, 711.9 Da, reported by Raun and colleagues, 1998, as the first selective secretagogue. Regulatory history points to GHRP-2, the prototype to GHRP-6, receptor selectivity to Ipamorelin. The lab report, once published on this page, will show the 818 mass. GHRP-2 and GHRP-6 come in 5mg only; Ipamorelin in 5mg and 10mg.
