Sermorelin in the research literature

The lineage runs back to 1982, when Guillemin and colleagues in Science and Rivier and colleagues in Nature characterised growth hormone-releasing factor from a human pancreatic tumour. The 1-29 amide fragment proved to be the shortest piece with full activity, and it became the standard agonist for GHRH receptor assays on pituitary somatotroph cells, the benchmark against which substituted analogues such as modified GRF (1-29) are compared.

The human literature is older and thinner than its reputation. Corpas and colleagues, 1992, ran a 14-day crossover study in nine young and ten older men, measuring 24-hour GH profiles and IGF-I. Prakash and colleagues, 1999, reviewed the diagnostic and paediatric data behind Geref and noted that sermorelin had never been compared directly with somatropin. Sigalos and colleagues, 2018, surveyed growth hormone secretagogues as a class and found few long-term, rigorously controlled studies. WADA names sermorelin in section S2.2.4, so it also appears in analytical reference work.
