- What's the MGF price?
- £13.95 for one 2mg vial. Two vials are £25.11, three are £33.48 and five are £48.83, which is 10%, 20% and 30% off.
- Is MGF the same as IGF-1?
- No. IGF-1 is the mature 70-residue protein. MGF is only the 24-residue E-domain peptide of the IGF-1Ec splice variant, calculated mass 2,868.2 Da. PubChem has no compound record for it; the parent protein is UniProt P05019.
- How fast is delivery?
- Same day, from Manchester, whenever you order. Royal Mail Tracked 24 aims for next working day delivery. Free over £40, otherwise £3.99.
- What else do I need with MGF?
- Bacteriostatic water, to dissolve the freeze-dried powder. We stock it, and you can add it from the Storage section above.
- How should I store MGF?
- Sealed vial: -20°C, away from light. Once reconstituted: 2-8°C, use within 28 days, and don't refreeze.
- Can I buy MGF in the UK?
- Yes, for laboratory research. MGF isn't a controlled drug in the UK and has no UK licence as a medicine, so it's sold for research use only, not for human use. It is on the WADA list under S2.3. You must be 18 or over.
About the MGF peptide
MGF, or mechano growth factor, is the 24-residue peptide at the C-terminal end of the E domain of IGF-1Ec, a splice variant of human insulin-like growth factor 1 first described by Geoffrey Goldspink's group in London. The vial contains the synthetic peptide alone, not the full IGF-1 protein. We sell it as freeze-dried powder in a 2mg vial, for laboratory research only.

MGF in the research literature
Published work on MGF sits in three strands. The first is splicing biology. Human IGF-1 is expressed as several isoforms, and the IGF-1Ec variant (UniProt P05019-4, 158 residues) ends in the 24-residue E-domain sequence that this vial contains. Yang and Goldspink, 2002, separated that E peptide from mature IGF-1 in myoblast culture and reported the two acting on proliferation and differentiation in different ways.
The second strand is the review literature. Matheny and colleagues, 2010, kept the word putative in their title, because no dedicated receptor for the E peptide had been identified and because it was unclear whether the E domain exists as a free peptide in tissue at all. Both points remain contested.
The third strand is analytical. Cox and colleagues, 2017, characterised confiscated MGF by LC-MS, found the R23H sequence variant rather than the native peptide, and followed its breakdown in vitro. That variant is the one most research vendors still print on their sheets.
MGF vs PEG-MGF: which to order
Both vials hold the same 24-residue sequence; the difference is the polyethylene glycol chain on PEG-MGF. Plain MGF has a defined formula, C121H199N41O40, and a calculated mass of 2,868.2 Da as the free acid, so the lab report, once published on this page, will show a single mass against that figure (2,867.2 Da for the C-terminal amide). PEG is polydisperse, so a PEG-MGF report shows a broad distribution instead. Order MGF for LC-MS method work or myoblast assays, where a defined peptide matters; order PEG-MGF when the model calls for slower clearance. Check the label sequence: native MGF ends in FEERK, and FEEHK is the R23H variant. One 2mg size; packs of two, three and five take 10, 20 and 30% off.
