Selank + Semax in the research literature

The two peptides share a design principle rather than a target. Ashmarin and colleagues, 2005, described the glyproline approach from the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Moscow: take a short natural fragment and fuse it to Pro-Gly-Pro, a tail that resists enzymatic breakdown. Selank is tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg, a natural tetrapeptide, PubChem CID 156080) with that tail. Semax is residues 4 to 7 of ACTH (Met-Glu-His-Phe) with the same tail, which is why Agapova and colleagues, 2007, call it an ACTH 4-10 analogue.

The primary work is mostly gene expression. Kolomin and colleagues, 2014, followed the time course of inflammation-related gene expression under Selank; Agapova and colleagues, 2007, measured neurotrophin gene expression in rat brain under Semax. Selank is also studied in enkephalin-degrading enzyme assays.

Almost all of this comes from the Moscow institute and its collaborators, often in Russian-language journals, and independent replication is thin. The methionine in Semax oxidises readily and is the main handling point for the blend.
